ECOPONTO

Supporting Casual Waste Pickers Through Recycling

To date, we have paid out $7,500 to over 300 informal waste collectors who turned in 61 tons of recyclables.

We installed compartments for temporary waste storage in a space next to a primary school provided free of charge by the municipality.

The local government provides a space free of charge where we receive and process waste for recycling and disposal.

Mateus is the Ecoponto Supervisor. He is responsible for separating and weighing the incoming material and paying the collectors. Mateus has a background in local radio and journalism. He was an industrious collector of plastic and other materials for value before he joined ParCo as an environmental educator and beach clean volunteer.

We envision oceans and lands free of waste. That is why we recover litter and ocean plastic from the local community for recycling and upcycling. The program also provides a small income to hundreds of informal waste pickers.
